(10) UTHM MPP Examination Banner: Steps

My friend me ask me to do a banner for MMP(Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar) for my university. At first I refuse because I don’t have any idea but he keep on asking me, on and on. So, I just make one although I don’t have any idea.

This is what I've design:



His design was rejected because the design was crowded with too many colors. This is it:



And if they reject or modify my design, I just not care. So, with shallow ideas, I design it as I show the step below.

First I open up new file which require 4500×1800 and 300 resolutions.


I’ll be using this photo for my main theme; an ant, which typically use to indicate hard work. Since it is about examination where we burning extra midnight oil for it, I use an ant to give that simple message.


Now I cut the background.


Insert it into the main frame. I use white for the base. This is very important to use white it you don’t want your design to be rejected. Usually people prefer white because it can save the cost for the printing.


Then I insert this round crystal and put my university logo on the center of it.






Now create the ant shadow. This will give the ant more realistic look where it doesn’t look like it floating.



Now I add the font. I use Impact for the font because it will give the highlight-phase look obvious. Then I use red for the color.


Now let’s give the ant some magic. I use a scattering brush to make it.


It is a common format for a banner to have their logo at the bottom. You can found it on advertisement banners.


It’s time to decorate. Let’s give the background some color. I use 2 different brushes to do this. Then color it with 3 color; pink, purple and light blue- very soft colors. More than 3 colors will make it crowded.





Now add some details; website & phone no.



And today the YDP for MPP (Fadzil) make a comment on my shoutbox, thanking me for the design. So, I visit his blog and I saw a banner that is very familiar. It's my design. hahhaaha... but they did modify it. And this is how it look like now:




He mention that this banner have spelling error. PERPERIKSAAN. Oh dear. I'm sorry. :P
