It has been 2 days past Gawai and I really miss home. And YES, I celebrate Gawai since I’m Dayak. Living here in Johor, there have been few times that people confuse me of some other races; Malay, Chinese and even Indian. And there was one time I was at the airport, a lady stop me when I was on my way to the toilet and asked “Are you Malaysian?” What do you think I am? Immigrant? She was actually there to sell travel packages to the tourist.
When I start to speak a word, people would assume I’m Sabahan. And when I told them I’m Sarawakian, automatically they will think I’m Iban. Should I narrow everything down to make you know that I’m Bidayuh. Having that said, I’m not mixed race. My grandparents from both sides of my parents are pure Bidayuh too. Or at less that is what they told me since I never met my grandfathers. And yes, you are now looking at ‘non-polluted’ Bidayuh’s face. BOOYAH!!
And this is a photo of my family, taken last year when I still have that hair that makes me look taller than my two older brothers besides me. :p
